SUSTAINABILITY
At Pentonbridge Inn, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and continually improving how we operate with sustainability in mind. As part of the Netherby Hall Ltd family, we share a long-term vision for responsible hospitality, guided by owners Gerald and Margo Smith’s belief in caring for the land as we welcome our guests.

From the very beginning, Pentonbridge Inn has operated without the use of fossil fuels for cooking or heating. We have
a biomass boiler and 240 ground-mounted solar panels, generating 102 kWp of renewable energy. Guests can also take advantage of on-site electric vehicle charging.

Our approach to sourcing is grounded in seasonality and quality. We work closely with suppliers across Cumbria and the nearby Scottish coast to bring in high-quality meats, fresh fish and shellfish, and vegetables, herbs, and edible flowers from the walled garden at Netherby Hall.

We actively recycle glass, cardboard, plastics, and cooking oil, and are working on reducing single-use plastics throughout the property with the aim of phasing them out completely. Composting efforts are also expanding, to make greater use of kitchen and garden waste to enrich the soil at Netherby Hall’s gardens.

As we grow, our aim is to further integrate sustainable practices into every part of the guest experience. Through ongoing initiatives across Pentonbridge Inn and the wider estate, we’re working toward a more environmentally responsible future-balancing exceptional hospitality with care for the natural world that surrounds us.
