Celebrating our three AA Rosette-awarded Dining Experience

The team at Pentonbridge Inn, the restaurant with rooms in the tiny hamlet of Penton, Carlisle is delighted to announce that it has been awarded three AA Rosettes to coincide with the launch of its latest 2022 guidebook.

Three Rosettes is denoted by the AA as “an outstanding restaurant that achieves standards that demands national recognition well beyond its local area and the cooking is underpinned by the selection of the highest quality ingredients; the timing, seasoning and the judgement of flavour combinations is consistently excellent.” Pentonbridge Inn moves from two to three Rosettes as the AA notes that the move is a major one. 

Head chef at Pentonbridge, Chris Archer says:

”It’s been a difficult period for the hospitality sector, but we are absolutely thrilled to be awarded the prestigious three AA Rosettes. As a brigade, we’ve kept our focus on building a solid standard of cooking using as much of the produce around us as we can and are excited for what the future holds.”


In September 2021, the Inn re-launched its food experience with a renewed focus on fine dining with a brand-new four course tasting menu that is rooted in Cumbria. Guests to Pentonbridge Inn are invited to create their own bespoke tasting menu complete with paired wines from options that include Askerton Castle Rare Breed Pork with Confit Beetroot, Burnt Apple, and Bay Leaf; Whitehaven Lobster Salt Baked Golden Beetroot, and signature dessert, Valrhona Chocolate Mousse.

The provenance of ingredients at the three AA boutique restaurant with rooms is a true reflection of its proximity to the Solway Firth which means deliciously fresh fish and the Cumbrian landscape provides a plentiful larder. When it comes to fresh herbs, fruit and vegetables, Pentonbridge Inn can say that up to 75% of what they use comes from nearby Netherby Hall’s 1.5-acre Victorian Walled Kitchen Garden.
